I Built a Free Islamic Will Kit. Here’s Why.

Salam Reader,

Nine months ago, I set out to help a few family members write their Islamic Wills.

I thought I’d capture the process in a simple article.

That’s not what happened.

The more I dug in, the more I realized how much was missing from existing resources. Lawyers ensure legal compliance. Imams emphasize justice and equity.

As a teacher, I wanted to focus on making the process easier to understand and implement.

Wills don’t just distribute assets. They can heal rifts—or deepen them. They can pass down wisdom, stories, and ethical commitments—or leave behind confusion.

So my little article ballooned.

It went from article, to presentation, to workbook, to a discussion guide, then an actual Will template, power of attorney templates, a legacy letter, and finally, a full-fledged Will Kit.

The resources come with walkthrough videos and articles, guiding you from start to finish - whether you’re drafting your Will yourself, helping a loved one write theirs, or preparing to work with a professional.

Lawyers will tell you to hire a lawyer. And you should for complex cases. But the majority of Canadians die without a Will—often because the process feels too cold, too clinical, too overwhelming.

This kit is for anyone who wants to start the work today.

Salam Reader, We're halfway through Ramadan which means we're also halfway through Zakat season. If you're like me, you use an online zakat calculator in Ramadan to help determine how much you owe.
