I didn't win. Here's what's next.

Salam Reader,

A lot has changed since the last time I emailed.

I applied to the 2024 Continuum Spark Awards. I didn't win. Alhamdulillah.

It doesn't feel good to lose. You get that knot of disappointment in your stomach.

I had to remind myself of something I tell the basketball teams I coach: "If you play, you either win...or you learn."

So, what did I learn?

One of the questions on the application asked how much of my work was in public. That’s when I realized I have hundreds of content ideas in my private folders—336 to date—but I've only shared a fraction of what I produce.

I need to share more.

Here’s why I haven’t been very prolific:

  1. Flow: My content pipeline was broken. So, I revamped everything: a new website (with a new look) and streamlined systems to get the ideas from my private Notion database straight to the web and socials.
  2. Fear: I rarely feel like my material is ever truly finished. Good ideas are nice, but if I don't share them, then what's the point? Good content shared might help someone, and even rough ideas can get better with feedback.

Sharing content is playing the game. You might not win every time, but you can learn every time.

So, you can expect more regular sharing on the website, socials, and here on email, insha'Allah.

And if I slip, don’t hesitate to nudge me. Let’s keep learning together.

Salam Reader, We're halfway through Ramadan which means we're also halfway through Zakat season. If you're like me, you use an online zakat calculator in Ramadan to help determine how much you owe. In years past, I often found myself jumping between multiple tools, considering varying scholarly opinions, manually calculating individual portions, and eventually piecing it all together. I wanted a single calculator that simplified this entire process. So I built ZakatView 🇨🇦 - a smart Zakat...

MuslimMoney Will Kit Image

Salam Reader, Nine months ago, I set out to help a few family members write their Islamic Wills. I thought I’d capture the process in a simple article. That’s not what happened. The more I dug in, the more I realized how much was missing from existing resources. Lawyers ensure legal compliance. Imams emphasize justice and equity. As a teacher, I wanted to focus on making the process easier to understand and implement. Wills don’t just distribute assets. They can heal rifts—or deepen them....
